History
Created in 2008, AGROCAMPUS OUEST took over from its two founding institutions, whose origins date back to the 19th century:
- Agrocampus Rennes (National Institute of Agricultural and Agri-food Higher Education and Research)
- The Institut national d'horticulture (INH) in Angers
Education
The newly created Institute is designed to provide France with a leading, university-level institution focusing on food, agriculture and the environment. It has three main aims: to train students, conduct academic and applied research and transfer knowledge to society at large.

The 13 research units (11 of which are under the authority of AGROCAMPUS OUEST, and with 3 of which it is associated) cover the 5 main areas with high application potential that AGROCAMPUS OUEST is keen to develop :
