History
- 1965 Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology is founded.
- 1998 Department of Informatics and Microelectronics and Department of Preliminary Training are established.
- 1999 Department of Distance Education is established.
- 2011 Full official English name of the University is changed into National Reserch University of Electronic Technology.

Research
MIET has excellent opportunities for research. Among the research staff there are members of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In recent years, MIET researchers have achieved remarkable results. For example, gyroscopes, developed at MIET, are successfully used in landing space shuttles.
Every year MIET carries out about 400 research and development projects under individual contracts with customers and under various international and national research and technology programs and grants. Thus, MIET is listed among advanced academic research institutions in Russia.

Student services
MIET Students council works in close collaboration with the division of outclass activities, which also includes psychological service. The head of Students council is elected in May and is the member of University council.
Housing services
- MIET students' dormitory is located outside the main university campus.
- The dormitory comprises four 5-storied buildings and one 11-storied building.
- They are interconnected to form a single complex with one main entrance. The dormitory holds a preventorium, a library with a reading hall, a canteen, a small concert hall, several study rooms and a first-aid post.
- The dormitory often hosts student concerts and discos, including specific musical genre-oriented parties.
- Almost 2000 students and postgraduates live in the dormitory.
- In the dormitory one can take up weightlifting, martial arts, ping-pong, chess, aerobics, break dance, hustle, club dances. There are also several music bands rehearsing.
Sports facilities
- The MIET sports complex includes a 25-meter-long swimming pool, a hall for indoor sports, a football pitch, tennis courts, an aerobics room and a workout room.
- Sport is an integral part of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year curriculum. Students can also take up various sports activities in their free time. The options include soccer, basketball, volleyball, mountain climbing, swimming, tennis, aerobics, aqua-aerobics, shaping, yoga.
- Most MIET sport teams successfully take part in Moscow university competitions.
Student clubs
Apart from various artistic groups working in the university club and sport clubs MIET has a Council of Young Scientists, Club of Intellectual Games, Youth Leaders Groups and other student organizations.
