History
After 158 Years of its wonderful history, the Government College, Lahore was raised to the status of a University in 2002. It was renamed as the GC University Lahore.
Research
All departments are well equipped with the necessary equipments/instruments required for research work. For example Centre for advanced Studies in Physics (CASP) has the latest labs, including Laser lab, Material lab, Accelerator lab, Nano Technology lab, Plasma Focus lab, and Computer labs. Internet facility, multimedia, overhead projectors, a vast collection of books, journals, professional periodicals and digital library, research labs and seminar rooms are available in various departments to enhance the productivity of our young scholars by providing them an academically rich environment.
Career
The Career Guidance and Placement Centre (CG&PC) office is led by a trained and full time Clinical Psychologist and aims at providing assistance and guidance to the students for helping them in making their career choices, academic planning and to explore future professions and placement opportunities based on their personal needs and current opportunities. The Centre is committed to offer complete individualized assistance and support to students and to ensure that each student possesses the necessary skills needed for career decision making and employment success.

Studying very good at this institute
My academic journey in BS Psychology has been a valuable and enriching experience. Throughout my studies, I have developed a strong understanding of human behavior, mental processes, and emotional well-being. The coursework provided me with both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into different areas of psychology. I have studied subjects such as cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, and social psychology, which helped me understand how individuals think, grow, and interact in society. This experience has improved my critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills. Additionally, my academic projects and assignments strengthened my research abilities and allowed me to explore real-life psychological issues. Overall, my study experience has prepared me to further pursue a career or higher education in psychology with confidence and dedication
Solid foundation for my future Master's.
My time at the university provided me with a strong academic background and helped me develop essential research skills. I particularly enjoyed the supportive environment from the faculty and the chance to interact with a diverse group of students. While the facilities are good, I believe more focus on international networking would be a great improvement.

Student services
The Advisor Students’ Affairs looks after the welfare of the students in every respect of their stay in the University. The Office of Students' Affairs establishes a liaison between the University administration and the students. It facilitates the students in addressing their problems pertaining to academics, co-curricular activities, sports, libraries, examination, transportation, health, fees, career planning and discipline as well as issues related to human rights, integrity, equity, diversity and inclusion.
Housing services
The University has four hostels for the accommodation of the University students, three for boys and one for girls.
Library services
GC University Lahore Library came into existence in 1872. Mr. Sardari Lal was deputed to hold its charge. Muhammad Asadullah Khan joined in 1916 as the first qualified librarian. The British Government honored him with the title of Khan Bahadur in 1935.
ICT services
- PERN-Pakistan Educational Research Network, a high speed Internet bandwidth of 2 Mbp has been provided to the GCU.
- This high speed Internet is being distributed among 400 users in the university including teachers, administrators and the students. This facility will be extended to 600 users very soon.
Medical services
The University Medical Officer and their staff is available on working days. The University Clinic is located in the Student Service Centre. GCU Special Ambulance Service is also available round the clock.
Campus life
The Capacity of existing Campus is about 9000 students which has been already overrun. Due to sapce constraints there is dire need to develop another campus.
Federal as well as Govt. of The Punjab are also aware of ever growing need of this prestigious institution as such Govt. of The Punjab provided 392 Acres of land at Kala Shah Kaku. Boundary wall and gate constructed with certain allied security facilities.
Academic Feasibility Study and Master Planning of new campus of GCU, Lahore at Kala Shah Kaku will be completed through PSDP (HEC) funding.
The present project is aimed at developing the following facilities at an estimated cost of Rs. 997.608 Million having a covered area of 260,886 sq. ft.

Sports facilities
Gymnasium/Sports Hall, Inter-College sports for men, Tennis, Cricket, Hockey, Table Tennis, Swimming, Track and Field events.
