History
- It was founded in 1989 by prof. Jerzy Derkowski, who remained as Rector until 2018. He is accredited by the Polish Accreditation Commission for all fields of study.
- The Academy of Film, Art and Design was the first private academy in Poland to receive a license to offer courses in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Design and Film, Television and Photography.
Education
The Academy of Film, Art and Design provides education at both vocational level (BA, BE, BS) and Master's level (supplementary and uniform masters degrees) as well as at the postgraduate level, on a full-time or part-time basis.

My experience with the master's programme
Master's programme is based more on doing bigger projects, they let you explore your personal design style if you want, you're put face to face with more intense project planning etc.

AFDA experience
I had a poor experience here. Communication within the school needs significant improvement, as it often felt disorganised. Parking was difficult to manage, and I even had damage to my vehicle during my time there. Some classes felt under-prepared, and when issues came up, I struggled to find the support I needed. There's definitely room for the university to improve in these areas.

The Academy is located in the historic quarter of the city "Księży Młyn" next to the State Film, Television and Theatre School "Filmówki", the Museum of Cinematography, a division of the Museum of Art, and also the Book Museum.
