History
The journey of Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar (WCM-Q) began in January 2001, when Cornell University and the Qatar Foundation signed an agreement to establish the institution. The college earned reaccreditation with commendation in 2018, became a WHO collaborating center in 2019, and achieved full international accreditation in 2022.
Education
The Six-Year Medical Program's pre-medical curriculum begins with rigorous undergraduate work in the sciences and humanities, and continues with a medical curriculum which integrates the basic and clinical sciences, offering early exposure to patient experiences and research. The Foundation Program's courses provide students with the appropriate academic background and knowledge application, equipping students with the study skills, habits, and critical thinking necessary for the Six-Year Medical Program.
Research
The University has established a state-of-the-art biomedical research program focused on tackling the most pressing health needs in Qatar and the region. They undertake biomedical research at the basic, translational and community levels, with the expectation that such a combinatorial approach will have a dramatic impact in addressing complex multifactorial diseases such as diabetes.
Career
Our faculty are dedicated to the achievement of excellence in the education of the physicians and biomedical scientists of the future, as well as those currently in practice.In the selection of faculty, significant consideration is given to their potential as role models for the future leaders of academic medicine whom they will train. Whether directly employed by WCM-Q or one of our affiliated institutions, all faculty members hold a faculty appointment in New York at either WCMC or CU. The same standards for appointment and promotion apply to all faculty.

Housing services
Covering nearly 390,000 sq ft (36,000 sq m), the building of WCM-Q provides generous accommodation and a superb environment for all the operations of the medical college, from clinical teaching to research at the bench, administrative work to accessing information resources.
Library services
Meeting the scholarly needs of WCM-Q, the Health Sciences Library provides the services and resources to complement your learning, teaching, clinical needs, researching, and publishing.
ICT services
High-speed Internet connectivity enables faculty, students and staff to maintain close links with colleagues overseas. To give one example, videoconferencing technology provides for delivery of live lectures from Weill Cornell Medicine in New York and Cornell University in Ithaca to students in the classroom in Doha. Secure Wi-Fi coverage is available for internet access.
Medical services
Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar provides local and international medical insurance for all registered students. Ones who come from countries outside of Qatar are eligible to receive a Residence Permit that allows them to obtain a State of Qatar Health Card, offering access to complete and confidential healthcare at government health facilities: Al Gharafa Health Center and Hamad Medical Corporation.
Campus life
Covering 335,000 square feet, the WCMC-Q building provides generous accommodation and a superb environment for all the operations of the Medical College.
Student clubs
There are currently more than 50 registered student clubs and organizations at WCM-Q, ranging from different interest groups with an academic focus, to those with a social focus, sports clubs and charitable and humanitarian clubs.
Accreditation
WCM-Q’s received institutional accreditation from the Joint Commission for Graduate Medical Education – International. The college became an accredited provider of Continuing Professional Development by Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health in 2014.In 2016, WCM-Q earned accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, later achieving reaccreditation with commendation in 2018. It was also recognized by the UK’s General Medical Council in 2017.In 2019, WCM-Q’s Infectious Disease Epidemiology Group was designated a WHO Collaborating Center. In 2022, the medical program got full international accreditation from the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs.
