History
Since January 1, 2003, the Academisch Ziekenhuis Rotterdam and Erasmus University’s Faculteit der Geneeskunde en Gezondheidswetenschappen have become Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam. Founded in 1950, a foundation aimed at educating medical graduates from other medical schools in the Netherlands to be trained as medical doctors.
Education
They receive guidance from committed supervisors and set up their own research. This helps them develop into self-reliant and autonomous scientists who are driven by curiosity. In many of our Research Masters, you will join a research group right from the start and have your own supervisor.
You are encouraged to learn about the disciplines of your fellow students, for example through an annual symposium. Our students become inspired connectors who work from an interdisciplinary perspective.

We are thinkers who act. Within the Erasmus MC Graduate School, we connect fundamental and practical research to create impact. Here, Dutch and international students develop into trained scientists, and PhD candidates conduct research that makes a difference - for science and for the wider community.
We measure our success not only in terms of international recognition and scientific publications, but also, crucially, in terms of our impact on the health and well-being of society.

Our graduates are well prepared to become the future (clinical) research staff at university medical centers, research universities, research institutes, and/or fill staff and policy positions, such as in management of biomedical universities, health care organizations, biomedical and pharmaceutical companies, ministries, EU, and many more. In and outflow is possible at all levels.

For medical and Ph.D. students from Erasmus University Rotterdam and Erasmus MC their are two libraries. The Medical Library is located at the Erasmus MC Education Center and provides information to the Erasmus MC medical school and Erasmus MC hospitals. The central University Library is located at Woudestein and focuses on the other EUR schools.
Campus life
Erasmus MC University Medical Center, more commonly known as Erasmus MC, Erasmus University’s Medical School and its three university hospitals are all integrated into one campus and led by one Executive BoardOpens external.
The Education Center with 400 study spots and 40 teaching rooms and lecture halls for up to 6,000 students was opened in 2012 and subsequently won the Rotterdam Architecture PrizeOpens external in 2013. In 2018 the old hospitals were replaced with a state-of-the art single-patient 1,000 bedroom hospital.
