Key Features
As a student on Cold Climate Engineering programme at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) you will get valuable and unique first-hand insight into working as an engineering in one of the most challenging areas of the world.
Master in Cold Climate Engineering is a collaboration between three of the five leading technical universities in the Nordic countries (Nordic Five Tech). You get to spend at least one semester (30 ECTS) at two of the partner universities. You graduate with a double master’s degree from the two universities.

You will also gain a holistic approach to engineering in one of the most challenging regions of the world.
Each track gives a profound understanding of how the obtained specialisations can be applied in jobs as consulting or practising engineers, working in places such as design and construction companies, the mining industry, high-tech companies, research operations, and governmental bodies.
All graduates will be prepared to work in teams of experts with different international backgrounds (education, values, language, culture, etc.).
Programme Structure
Courses include:

- The master is the first comprehensive master’s programme in cold climate engineering in Europe and gives you an unique possibility to do field work and projects in Greenland or Svalbard. By actually going to the Arctic and applying your skills, you get valuable first-hand insight into working as an engineer in one of the most challenging areas of the world.
- You can choose between the following study tracks:
- Land Track: focus on Arctic Geoengineering (DTU and NTNU)
- Sea Track: focus on Arctic ships and offshore structures (NTNU and Aalto)
- Space Track: focus on mapping and observing the Arctic (Aalto and DTU)

General requirements
- All applicants must write a motivation letter with a resume attached as part of the application. For the Land and Sea tracks the motivation letter must include a passage describing your expectations to spending one or more semesters in Greenland or Svalbard.
- Students applying for the Nordic Master in Cold Climate Engineering must have obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree corresponding to a minimum 180 ECTS credits.
