About Speech Therapy at University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences
The Department of Speech Therapy was established within the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation sciences (USWR) in 1992. The department is located in USWR in the northern part of Tehran, Iran.
While many students graduated, numerous students are currently studying in our department. In this world class department, all staff is committed to exemplary professional behavior, collaboration and support.
The department welcomes national and also international students at undergraduate and also postgraduate levels.
Speech Therapy as a discipline of Rehabilitation Sciences is concerned with study, assessment, diagnosis and management of speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults. It is considered as a combination of science and art. The nature of speech therapy demands interrelationship with many disciplines including medicine, psychology, linguistics, neuroscience, and social sciences.
In order to be trained as a speech therapist, basic knowledge of neuroanatomical, physiology of speech mechanisms, phonology, linguistics, psycholinguistics, psychology and psychiatry is necessary. In addition, learning the techniques of diagnosis, assessment and therapy of speech and language disorders is one of the main objectives of the field.

General requirements
- USWR’s admission process is dependent on the student’s academic history. Some of our courses might have additional requirements to access a course. A panel of qualified academics will examine the students’ competencies and their adherence to the USWR philosophy to ensure that the admission process is both fair and beneficial to the students and the faculty.
- Students who wish to enroll in one of our courses must fill up the application forms which are available online and submit these forms before the given deadlines. Financial plans should be done via our international office. High school diplomas or equivalents must be submitted. Please note that all documents must be translated into English and validated by an academically approved agency.
