Overview
At Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) we offer a master degree in Geotechnics and Geohazards. Geohazards include landslides, rockslides, avalanches, earthquakes and tsunamis. Many lives could be saved and enormous destruction avoided if people knew more about geohazards forecasting and prevention.
What will you learn?
Geotechnics is the study of how we can build safely on, in or of soil. Numerous challenges exist, and they are often related to the optimal exploration of limited areas in and close to cities and densely populated areas.
Master in Geotechnics and Geohazards aims to provide you with technical-scientific insight into phenomena connected with geohazards. It also focuses on properties of soil and geotechnical materials, field exploration, field measurements, laboratory testing, computer simulations, risk evaluations and practical design skills needed for engineering solutions to geohazards and geotechnical challenges.
- Why do landslides and avalanches occur?
- Where is it dangerous to build, where is it safe, and when?
- How may we evaluate the stability of a slope above the settlement, be it in Norway or in Las Colinas in El Salvador?
Job Prospects
- Within geotechnics, there has been a shortage of new candidates on the market for several years now.
- Both consulting companies and entrepreneurs are looking for more people with this type of competence.
