History
The creation of the University of Oviedo and the College of Orphan Girls Recoletas was possible thanks to the will of Fernando de Valdés, archbishop of Seville, Inquisitor General and president of the Council of Castile, in accordance with his will and codicils issued in 1566 and 1568 .
Education
Worthy of note is the participation of nearly 200 companies in the teaching and student placements in academic-career-oriented Master's degree programmes. It coordinates three Erasmus Mundus Master's programmes and offers students bilingual studies, dual degrees with foreign universities, and double degrees via which young people obtain two degrees.

Research
The University of Oviedo has a teaching and research staff (TRS) of more than 2,000 people in 38 departments who come together in research groups to carry out this activity.
The University is home to a group of about 350 young researchers, who join research groups via different calls for grants and programmes to support research training and teaching, at both a post-graduate and post-doctoral level. There are also about 400 people doing research work in the context of research projects and publicly or privately funded contracts.
Career
The University of Oviedo provides supports to its students through a variety of advice and career counselling resources. Available in all its centres, these are aimed at informing students about job prospects related to their courses of studies, a key first step on the road to student placements and employment.

I have over 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, ranging from building electrical installations to advanced power electronics design. I currently work as an Assistant Engineer at OPMAG AB in Sweden, where I specialize in DC/DC converter design and magnetic component optimization. My background also includes hands-on roles in industrial maintenance, automation, and communication networks, with strong problem-solving and system modeling skills.
Great atmosphere
It�s actually been much better than anticipated. We�ve met a lot of people who ended up here for various reasons, not as their first choice. However, it has been a pleasant surprise in many ways. The teaching is great, the atmosphere exceeds expectations, and it's highly recommended.

The Office for International Relations provides the information and support needed to complete all academic paperwork, facilitating the university student's adaptation.
Through the Office for International Relations, they will get all the information and support they need to complete the legal and academic paperwork and to carry out all essential paperwork, such as opening a bank account or to study the different accommodation options. Future University of Oviedo students can plan their trip in advance and have all the information they need prior to arrival in Asturias.
Housing services
There are numerous accommodation options for students at the University of Oviedo tailored to different budgets and lifestyles. A small region like Asturias offers its university students a high quality of life and more affordable cost of accommodation and living expenses than the big cities.

Sports facilities
The Sports Service is the body in charge of the promotion, organization and development of sports in the University of Oviedo.
Its aim is to popularize the different aspects of physical education and sports by offering the university community a wide range of different sports activities: hygienic, agonistic, expressive, creative, etc.
