Overview

The Sport Management program offered by Washington State University is a full-time two year degree. The program offers graduate assistantships teaching lower division undergraduate sport management courses. Graduate assistantships are also available in various departments on campus including the Athletic Department and University Recreation.

Career Opportunities:

Our graduates find jobs in sport industry sectors such as professional sport, collegiate sport, recreational sport, youth sport, and international sport, with careers in areas such as event management, sport marketing and promotion, sport journalism, media relations, recreation management, ticket sales, community relations, etc.

Programme Structure

All graduates will be able to:

Identify and analyze ethical legal socio-cultural issues and formulate response in managerial decision making and police determinations in sport.
Employ principles of strategic planning, financial management, and human resource management in sport.
Assess marketing and media needs and formulate short term and long term solution.
Develop and utilize critical thinking and abstract reasoning skills in analyzing sport management issues and in managerial planning and decision making.
Demonstrate information literacy and communication skills.
Develop research skills and utilize sound theoretical frameworks relevant to the different aspects of the sport industry.

To apply, please provide the following information: a WSU Graduate School online application; a supplemental department application; a current resume documenting your educational attainments, professional experiences, and highlighting any work and/or research experience in sport and sport management; a statement of purpose (suggested length: approx. 500 words) as outlined in the supplemental application and including the following elements: how your academic (and, if relevant, professional) experiences have prepared you for graduate school, and a discussion of your career trajectory or potential career paths and how a master’s degree will benefit you; three letters of reference as outlined in the supplemental departmental application; transcripts showing all previous college or university coursework; and (for international students only) TOEFL or IELTS scores. GRE or other standardized test scores are optional.
