Overview

The first program of its kind in the nation, Rhe University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Business Administration - Optometry OD/MBA program exposes students to a truly interdisciplinary approach to learning. Here, the fundamental and advanced principles of both optometry and business converge to provide a greater understanding of the business of eye care.

So how do we help you balance two demanding curricula? Flexibility. You see, in optometry, your education will include extensive clinical training, as well as courses in optics, neuroscience, gross anatomy, eye movements, public health optometry, glaucoma, pediatric optometry, contact lenses, low vision rehabilitation, binocular vision, and more. Your business courses will include Strategic Management, Accounting and Finance for Managers, Information Technology and Business Strategy, and Marketing Strategy.

If at all possible, we'll want you to start your MBA courses the summer before you begin the optometry program, but we do have degree plans available if you start your business classes after your eye care classes. It all boils down to this—earning both of your degrees is possible and important if you are interested in starting your own optometry practice.
