The Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner degree at Duke University develops leaders in practice, education, advocacy and research. As a Duke acute care pediatric NP student, you’ll gain hands-on expertise and engage in networking opportunities across all aspects of pediatric acute care and the wellness-illness continuum.

These experiences will prepare you to be a valuable resource for families of children with complex, chronic, acute and critical illnesses. You’ll learn to lead interprofessional clinical teams by practicing teamwork and communication in simulated case conferences, clinical rounds and other case-based, student-centered learning activities.

As an acute care pediatric nurse practitioner, you are prepared to lead interprofessional teams and manage pediatric patients with acute, chronic and critical illnesses.

Acute care pediatric nurse practitioners manage pediatric patients from newborn to young adult in children’s hospitals all over the country. In health systems without specific children’s hospitals, ACPNPs provide expert care and are a resource for families with critically ill children in the emergency department, pediatric specialty clinics and inpatient pediatric units.

Earned bachelor of science in nursing from an accredited Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education School of Nursing, or an earned associate's degree in nursing from an accredited school in addition to a bachelor's degree in any field.

Licensure: Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state in which practice will occur.
