Overview

Although there is no doctoral program in Latin American and Iberian Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, many successful graduates of the M.A. program pursue doctoral study in traditional academic departments such as anthropology, economics, history, literature, or political science, or enter professional schools to study business administration, education, law, international relations or public health. The broad, interdisciplinary nature of the program allows students a great deal of scope to define and develop special interests.

Demonstrate specialized knowledge of a geographical area within Latin American or Iberia from a particular disciplinary perspective.

Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of Latin America or Iberia to successfully carry out independent research.
