Program Overview
At the M.F.A. Ceramics program offered by Ohio University, we are committed to developing individuals who challenge contemporary standards while producing work of exceptional craftsmanship. It is our intent to prepare artists for competition in the complex, professional ceramic art world.
All students have access to a well-equipped studio that includes:
- Twenty five thousand dollars in raw material inventory
- Equipment consisting of over 20 potters wheels, 3 clay mixers (2 Soldners, 1 new Bluebird), 2 slab rollers, a ballmill, sandblaster, Slipomatic, glaze spraying booth and a well-stocked ventilated glaze room and clay mixing area
- The Ceramics department has a total of 14 kilns, 3 indoor and 11 outdoor.

Career opportunities
Ohio University Ceramic graduates are successful professional artists, secure positions as directors of arts programs and residencies, and are university educators, running and teaching in some of the top programs in the country in Ceramics, Sculpture and New Media. Ninety percent will remain working in fields related to Ceramics throughout their careers.

General requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent: Admission requires an earned bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association, or an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
- Official transcripts: Applicants are required to submit one official transcript from each post-secondary institution attended, regardless of whether or not a degree was earned or the credits are reflected on a separate transcript as transfer credit.
- Letters of recommendation. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation.
- Statement of Purpose: Applicants must submit a two-page statement of purpose.
- Resume or Curriculum Vita: This should also be treated as one of the most important items in your application package.
