Overview
Our graduate Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Memphis is a collaboration with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC).
We offer three graduate degrees in BME: MS degree with project, MS degree with thesis, and PhD with doctoral dissertation. Students can choose to work in the areas of Biosensors, Biomechanics, Bioelectricity, and Biomaterials.

- Biomedical Engineers work in industry, in hospitals, and in research labs of government, academic, and industrial institutions. They may also become part of the regulatory function in government.
- Our program has a strong record of job placement after graduation. Approximately 54% of our students are now working in industry and 27% have continued on to with a graduate degree programs.

General requirements
- An appropriate bachelor’s degree (biomedical, chemical, electrical, mechanical, or others as defined by the Joint Program)
- An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00 from an accredited college or university
- It is recommended to obtain a GRE score above 300 (combined verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning) including a minimum 154 on the quantitative reasoning
- Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not earned a degree from a college or university in an English-speaking country must have achieved a TOEFL score of at least 213/79 on the computerbased/Internetbased exam or an IELTS score of 6.5 (earned within 2 years prior to application). Any applicant whose first language is not English but who has earned a baccalaureate or master’s degree from a college or university in an English-speaking country where instruction was in English may be exempted from the requirement for the TOEFL or IELTS examination.
