Overview
The MS in Structural Engineering program from Seattle University has been developed collaboratively between SU faculty members and our Industry Advisory Board. The Industry Advisory Board is composed of representatives from the top structural engineering firms and public-sector institutions in the Seattle region. With industry help, we've developed a programming emphasizing student-centered course design and practical application.
Learning Outcomes
By graduation, students from our Master of Science in Structural Engineering are expected to be able to:
- Apply principles of engineering mechanics and use appropriate tools to solve problems in structural engineering
- Design and evaluate structural components and systems to meet the desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, constructability, and sustainability
- Plan, compose, and integrate verbal, written, and graphical communication to technical and non-technical audiences
- Function effectively as a member of an engineering team
- Discuss professional responsibility in light of social context of engineering problems

General requirements
- Complete graduate application form and submit the $55 non-refundable application fee.
- Evidence of an earned four-year baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an ABETaccredited institution or itsequivalent.
- Satisfactory academic performance in mechanics-related courses (program) but lower GPA will be considered on a case-by-casebasis.
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals who are able to assess applicant’s potential for graduate study. At least one recommendation should be from a university professor
- Applicants for whom English is a non-native language must demonstrate English proficiency regardless of English language studies, residence in the United States or an English-speaking country, or immigration status
