We offer a master degree in Creative Writing at the University of New Orleans. New Orleans has long been home to writers, outsiders, and artists of every stripe.

Now it is the setting for a literary renaissance, with a whole new generation of writers calling New Orleans home. For the last 25 years, many of these writers have begun their journey in the Creative Writing Workshop (CWW) at the University of New Orleans.

Literary magazine experience through the journal Bayou

Internship opportunities with local theatres and publishers
Teaching opportunities with the Department of English and Foreign Languages at UNO as well as Orleans Parish Prison and Big Class.
Publishing experience through UNO Press’s Publishing Institute

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or a 4-year degree equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad.
Applicants enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's degree or international equivalent will be considered for conditional admission.
3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4-point scale for all graduate coursework
We ask for 3 letters of recommendation. We are interested in hearing from people who have seen your writing in an academic or professional context.
Your Statement of Purpose should detail your reasons for applying to our M.F.A. program.
Your writing sample should be in a single genre, the one in which you intend to specialize, and should be uploaded with a cover sheet clearly labeled either "Fiction," "Nonfiction," "Poetry," or "Playwriting."
