Overview
Greek and Latin and the works written in these languages have been understood as the foundations of Western learning for more than 2,000 years. Their profundity, their beauty and their persuasive power emerge alongside the development of the mind and the refinement of one's sensitivity to the subtlety of the great texts.
In recent decades there has been a renewed and welcome demand for the re-entry of Greek and Latin in all stages of education, from primary schools to universities. The master's program in Classics is the university's response to this demand at the post-baccalaureate level.
What you'll learn
The Classics program at University of Dallas aims to satisfy the needs of a variety of potential students by offering study in one or both languages for those who have done neither in either language or a little or even a substantial amount in one or both. The more knowledge students bring with them, the further they can progress.
You may want to earn your degree in order to apply for a Ph.D. in Classics elsewhere. Or, you might use it to teach in primary or secondary schools or to fill some lacunae in your education. Because of the various aspirations of our students, the program is designed to be as flexible as possible.
