The Geographic Information Science program of the University of Minnesota has an international reputation for excellence. Our program is affiliated with the University’s well-known Department of Geography, Environment & Society and has close interdisciplinary ties to the University’s programs for forest resources, computer science, and soil, water & climate. We also maintain close relationships with campus-wide centers such as U-Spatial, the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs, and the Minnesota Population Center. The University's MGIS program started in 1997 as interest in geographic information science (GIS) began to boom. As one of the nation’s first professional graduate programs in GIS, our MGIS program has set the standard for other graduate GIS programs across the nation.
