Overview

Develop your unique talents at Pennsylvania Western University Edinboro’s, Master of Studio Art (MFA) by focusing on a plan of study in ceramics, jewelry, painting, printmaking or sculpture, with supplemental studies in art history, theory, criticism and contemporary practice.

Your faculty advisor will work with you as you complete 30 hours of studio coursework in your areas of specialization plus an additional 30 hours of graduate-level work. You will mount a major studio exhibit and complete a required residency before earning your MFA degree.

The faculty and facilities of PennWest’s nationally recognized Art Department ensure you both develop your artistic skills and find ways to market them in the creative economy.

Our alumni boast a record of excellence throughout the U.S. in the fields of art practice, academia and arts administration. All are prepared for lifelong research and routinely exhibit and publish their work in their specific field of study.

PennWest Edinboro has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) since 2007. The University recently celebrated its 100th anniversary of education in visual art and art education.

Provide an official transcript verifying an earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally

accredited institution of higher education. A grade point average of 3.0 or better for the junior and senior years is required

Submit a letter of intent (Please indicate the main medium of interest: Ceramics, Metals/Jewelry, Painting, Printmaking or Sculpture)

Three letters of reference. At least two of these should be faculty members the applicant had as instructors for undergraduate or graduate art courses

Submit the required portfolio of 20 images of recent studio work using the Edinboro SlideRoom account. Include title, media, size, and date of each image. These must be submitted on or before the application deadline

A personal interview if notified by the department
