Key Features

The German program from Portland State University is designed to train students in rigorous scholarship, original research, and independent thinking. You'll be prepared to launch careers in academia, government, or business, or continue your studies in a doctoral program.

PSU's German program provides an in-depth study of German literature, culture, and language, and you're encouraged to draw on the expertise of our faculty to develop your research projects and design a course of study that fits your interests.

With weekly guidance and curricular support from faculty and peers, you'll gain professionalism, leadership, and group management skills that'll give you a competitive edge on the job market.

In our program, you'll have two options for pursuing research projects: two major papers or a thesis. Either choice will prepare you well as a researcher, whether you plan to work after graduation or pursue doctoral studies.

Career

With a master's degree in German from PSU, you'll be prepared to teach German at the high school or college level.

Beyond academia, the fluency you'll gain in German language and culture will give you a competitive edge on the job market, both at home and abroad.
