Overview

Music from Wayne State University is extremely flexible, so students can select courses to fit their interests, including music history, music theory, and jazz. Elective credits may also be used for lessons.

In the past few years, students in the MA program have given prize-winning presentations at the WSU Graduate Research Symposium, as well as presented their work at national and international conferences. Recent thesis topics include Detroit house music, musical intelligence, guitarists Randy Rhoads and Keith Richards, "Looney Tunes" composer Carl Stalling, and issues in nineteenth- and twentieth-century opera.

Careers

Alumni have gone on to graduate doctoral programs, opened their own studios, found positions in the nonprofit sector, and a variety of other careers.
