Overview

Graduates of the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner programme from the Long Island University (LIU) are eligible for a New York State Certificate as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and will be eligible for national board certification through the national certifying agencies for advanced practice nursing (American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners).

Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses in young adults, adults, and older adults in a variety of primary care settings.

Under the New York State, Modernization Act, after successfully completing the 3600 clinical hours, a nurse practitioner can independently diagnose and treat patients without a written practice collaboration with a physician.
