Overview
Interested applicants from outside of Colorado College may still be considered by completing four required Education courses at Colorado College the semester (or year) prior to the start of the Master of Arts in Teaching program. We feel those four classes, which provide critical foundations in multicultural education, educational psychology and culturally responsive teaching are vital to success in the MAT program.
Program's Focus
Our focus is on the development of the whole child and best teaching practices for ALL learners. Students enrolled in our program will work collaboratively across all disciplines and will come to understand the continuum of learning from elementary through secondary in preparation for any age level or discipline in which they might teach.
During the duration of their teacher preparation students take education foundations coursework, educational psychology and at least one class focusing on diversity and equity in education, multicultural education or urban education. Students also engage directly with students in public school classrooms through progressively more intentional practicum experiences. In addition, students will have a solid depth and breadth of understanding in their chosen content area.Students may be licensed in the following content areas: elementary education, K-12 art, music and world languages (French, German, Latin & Spanish) or secondary education in English, math, science and social studies.Career
Successful students in our program reflect on their personal and professional dispositions, come equipped with excellent academic writing skills in order to complete a master's research project and understand the necessary dedication and time needed to complete an intense course load. Successful graduate students in our program are quick learners, self-sufficient, and have the ability to transfer and integrate new knowledge.Programme Structure
