In a unique collaboration, academia and industry combine resources to deliver a leading-edge MS Degree in ASL/English Interpreting, Concentration: Interpreting Pedagogy. Known for its reputable faculty and innovative Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in ASL/English Interpreting, UNF is a forerunner in distance learning for Interpreter Education. Sorenson Communications has a long history of supporting and furthering interpreter education. Together, UNF and Sorenson Communications’ Department of Interpreter Education and Professional Development provide an exciting opportunity offering interpreters a chance to earn a Master's degree.

If you are interested in a career teaching interpreting or are already doing so and would like a cutting-edge curriculum taught by top educators in the field, then this program is for you!

The Interpreting Pedagogy concentration is offered via distance learning (no need to relocate) with a combination of online courses and hybrid courses. Students go through the program as a cohort of 10-15 select students and take two classes each semester. Summer sessions (7-10 days each) are held on the campus of UNF. The entire program is 30 credit hours, and students can graduate from UNF in Jacksonville, FL in 18 months. We are currently accepting applications for the next cohort which begins in Fall 2022.

The ASL,English Interpreting - Interpreting Pedagogy program at University of North Florida is developed in accordance with current spoken and signed language research and strives to provide students a global perspective on the interpreting profession, a foundation in interpreting studies literature, and a growth mindset for lifelong learning and skills development.

Bachelor's degree (preferred in interpreting, linguistics, education, or deafness-related field)

GPA minimum of 3.0 in last 60 hours of undergraduate study

National Interpreting Certification (e.g., RID CSC, CI and CT, NIC, NAD IV-V, AVLIC/CASLI COI)

Deaf persons who aspire to teach in interpreter education programs are encouraged to apply (with or without certification)

Teaching experience in interpreter education (preferred)

Strong academic English and academic ASL competency
