MFT licensure is administered by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). Our Psychology program at Cal Poly Pomona University meets all the requirements set forth by the BBS and is approved by the Western Accreditation of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Key Features

Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) is a form of psychotherapy or counseling that addresses the behaviors of all family members and how these behaviors affect individual family members, the relationships between family members, and the family unit as a whole. Students in our MFT program will learn the basics for how to conduct individual therapy, couple therapy, family therapy, and child/adolescent therapy.

General requirements

A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2
A bachelor's degree in psychology with at least 24 semester or 36 quarter units in psychology. Consideration will also be given to students from related majors who have completed the same number of psychology units (24 semester or 36 quarter). In either case, prospective applicants should have taken clinically relevant courses, such as Theories of Personality, Abnormal Psychology, Theories ofCounseling, and Developmental Psychology
Three letters of recommendation (at least two from professors who can assess your ability to perform successfully in graduate studies in psychology)
A cover letter that briefly introduces who you are, why you are applying to the program, and your contact information
