Overview
The Concurrent Divinity and Theological Studies dual degree program at University of San Diego prepares students for ordained or lay ecclesial ministry as well as providing a breadth of theological understanding for general educational purposes.
The program is designed to take four years, and it has the same goals as the individual degrees.
Who takes the concurrent MDiv/MTS degrees?
The Concurrent MTS/MDiv is designed for lay students seeking both comprehensive theological education and practical ministerial formation. Rooted in the teachings and charism of St. Francis of Assisi, this pathway welcomes students who wish to deepen their theological understanding while developing skills for leadership, service, and ministry in a world-class academic environment. Applicants range from recent undergraduates to established professionals and come from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds

General requirements
- applicants to the mdiv program must have nine undergraduate semester credit hours in philosophical topics (e.g., history of philosophy, ethics, systematic philosophy
- ordination candidates must provide a letter of approval from their ordinary or religious superior
- ordination candidates must provide a certificate confirming a minimum of 30 semester credit hours of undergraduate philosophy or equivalent as prescribed by the usccb program for priestly formation
- complete 72 semester units for the concurrent mdiv/mts program (maximum of 18 units may be taken at the university of san diego\’s graduate schools)
- engage in all field education requirements
- maintain an overall 3.0 grade point average in all required and elective courses
