Nova Southeastern University’s Master of Science in National Security Affairs And International Relations is designed both for professionals and those aspiring for careers in the field, as well as for students with a strong academic interest in security affairs and international relations.

National Security Affairs is one of the fastest growing professions with positions open in federal, state, and local governments, and in the private sector.
This program will provide you with a core mastery of critical issues informing the field of national security today, including the assessment and analysis of the threat of terrorism in the U.S. and beyond, and the analysis of intelligence collection.
You will also learn of the international context in which U.S. national security issues are shaped. The knowledge and skills you will develop are applicable to a wide variety of jobs within the field.
Careers in National Security Affairs
- Information Security Analysts - Plan, implement, upgrade, or monitor security measures for the protection of computer networks and information. Assess system vulnerabilities for security risks and propose and implement risk mitigation strategies. May ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure. May respond to computer security breaches and viruses.
- Geographic Information Systems Technologists and Technicians - Assist scientists or related professionals in building, maintaining, modifying, or using geographic information systems (GIS) databases. May also perform some custom application development or provide user support.
- Security Managers - Direct an organization's security functions, including physical security and safety of employees and facilities.
- Detectives and Criminal Investigators - Conduct investigations related to suspected violations of federal, state, or local laws to prevent or solve crimes.
- Intelligence Analysts - Gather, analyze, or evaluate information from a variety of sources, such as law enforcement databases, surveillance, intelligence networks or geographic information systems. Use intelligence data to anticipate and prevent organized crime activities, such as terrorism.
- Emergency Management Directors - Plan and direct disaster response or crisis management activities, provide disaster preparedness training, and prepare emergency plans and procedures for natural (e.g., hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), wartime, or technological (e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies or hazardous materials spills) disasters or hostage situations.

- Provide transcripts from all previously attended higher‑education institutions showing degree conferral.
- International applicants must provide proof of all coursework and obtain a NACES course‑by‑course evaluation for any foreign education.
- Submit an academic writing sample such as an academic paper, journal submission, or professional writing piece.
- Submit a resume or curriculum vitae.
- Meet the minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 for undergraduate work or 3.0 for a completed master’s degree.
- Non‑native English speakers or graduates of institutions where English is not the primary language must demonstrate English proficiency through a qualifying U.S. degree or acceptable TOEFL scores (iBT 80+ old scale or 4+ new scale).
