The curriculum emphasizes integrated architectural design and its relationship to urban issues and tectonics, as well as the technical knowledge necessary for the professional practice of architecture.

Key facts

Courses in architectural history and theory; building science; graphics; making, materials and assemblies; design/build; and international studies provide further professional training and opportunities to develop areas of specialization. These areas of specialization are called Degree Options and provide students of the Master of Architecture degree program from University of Washington with an opportunity to concentrate their studies in one of three areas:

History, Theory and Criticism
Materials and Fabrication
Sustainable Systems and Design

Students indicate their preference for the degree option by the beginning of spring quarter in year 2 using the department’s online Degree Option Registration. The degree option title will appear on the student’s final transcript.

All students confirming enrollment must provide an official (sealed) transcript and degree statement (with date of award & title of degree awarded) for verification to Graduate Enrollment Management Services (GEMS).
