Key Features
The terminal MA in Film and Media Studies provides this group of doctoral students the possibility of a terminal degree that acknowledges their time of study. A total of 25 credits is needed.
The Film and Media Studies Program draws on the expertise of faculty across disciplines to offer rigorous courses concerning the history, aesthetics, theory, and production of cinema.
The program provides courses in critical studies and courses in film, video, and photography production. Students can complete a Film and Media Studies major or minor. Many students double major, often working also in the sciences, English writing, psychology, communication, theatre arts, and history.
Once students complete the few core courses required for the major, they can tailor the curriculum to their individual interests. The major in Film and Media
Studies prepares students for graduate training in cinema or for such film-related careers as television and film production, arts administration, film journalism, film curatorial work, film library work, film distribution, teaching film, and film production.

General requirements
- Students must complete a comprehensive for each degree. The master’s paper in Film and Media Studies and the comprehensive requirement in the associated department.
- Associated Departments and/or the Film and Media Studies Program may waive duplicate course requirements for the MA degrees, but degree credits cannot be waived. Students would be required to enroll in the appropriate number of credits for each degree. Waived course credits cannot be substituted with under-1000-level courses or independent study.
- Students will be required to have a least twelve 2000/3000-level seminar credits (excluding independent study, directed study and teaching credits) with at least a grade B or above for each degree.
