Overview
The Criminal Justice and Law - Joint Degree Program at Seattle University allows you to choose whether their first year of study is spent in the Department of Criminal Justice at the College of Arts and Sciences or in the School of Law.
The second year is spent in the other school. The last two years are mixed, allowing you to take courses in both the MACJ and Law School.

Seattle University’s Department of Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Forensics offers study in leading-edge interdisciplinary social sciences involving the study of crime and the societal responses to crime. Our department offers undergraduate, graduate, certificate and continuing education programs that apply theory and research to inform initiatives, policies and practice with a laser focus on ethics, diversity and leadership.
Internships
Student internships are highly recommended but optional. Our students have interned a variety of federal, state, and local agencies, including Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, King County Prosecutor's Office, King County Medical Examiner's Office, King County Sheriff's Office, Pioneer Human Services, police departments in Seattle, Redmond, and Bellevue, U.S. Marshal, and U.S. Secret Service, and Washington State Department of Corrections, State Patrol Crime Lab, and Office of the Attorney General.

General requirements
- Evidence of minimum of earned four-year baccalaureate degree from regionally accredited institution or U.S. equivalent
- Applicants with undergraduate degree in field outside of criminal justice or related social, behavioral, or physical science stated disciplines may be considered with 45 quarter/30 semester credits of related coursework or significant supervised work/volunteer experience
- Applicants with GPA below 3.00 in last 90 quarter/60 semester credits or have graduated from nongraded institutions, submit official scores from Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
- Three letters of recommendation from academic and/or professional references who are able to assess potential to do graduate study
- Statement of purpose (3 pages maximum) discussing background, interests, and reasons for wanting to pursue MACJ
- Writing sample ( an undergraduate paper)
- Professional résumé or curriculum vita
- Selected candidates may be contacted for interview with MACJ faculty
